The Christian Brothers continue the vision of Edmund Rice. They are a congregation of Catholic religious men numbering about 1,800 Brothers working in 26 countries throughout the world, with headquarters in Rome. They endeavour through education and allied ministries to foster the human dignity of those they work with and to help them to build better relationships with God and their fellow men and women.

The old bark,

Now brown and cracked

Was falling away

And was revealing

Dresden china-like

Grey-blue-pink

Of the new bark

Underneath.

For a long time

The old bark

Had nurtured the life of the new -

Now that its work was nearly done

The old bark's new life

Had already begun.
