National Apology
by the Prime Minister of Australia
to the Survivors of Institutional Sexual Abuse

22nd October 2018

The Christian Brothers Oceania Province stands with other institutions in fully endorsing the National Apology to the Victims and Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse.

The National Apology, to be delivered by the Prime Minister, will be conducted in the Federal Parliament in Canberra on Monday 22nd October 2018.

This is an opportunity for us all to recognise the terrible impact of abuse committed on children in institutions – both government and non-government – and to acknowledge the hurt and pain caused to so many.

The Christian Brothers have openly acknowledged that some of our own Brothers as well as lay people employed in our institutions have committed abuse against children in our care.

That such things ever occurred is a matter of enormous regret and deep sorrow.

On behalf of all Christian Brothers and all in our Edmund Rice Community I reiterate to any person who suffered abuse whilst in our care our unreserved apology profound regret.
